This product is guaranteed to be from a vegetable source, and is free from shellfish, the normal starting material for most glucosamine products. The tablets have a taste free coating and are small and easy to swallow. The level of glucosamine provided by each tablet is almost the same as provided by 1000mg of glucosamine sulphate, since the hydrochloride has a higher proportion of glucosamine than does the sulphate form. Glucosamine is an important ingredient of the cartilage, joint surfaces, spinal cord and joint fluids and it plays an important role in restoring the flexibility and durability of the cartilage. Glucosamine is found in all connective tissue in the human body: in the skin, tendons, blood vessels, heart valves and also in the eyes. There are no edible food sources of glucosamine, so when our bodies fail to manufacture sufficient natural glucosamine, supplementation is useful to help maintain joint mobility. Whereas the raw material base of most other glucosamine products is shellfish, this glucosamine hydrochloride (HCl) is manufactured from a vegetable source that is converted to glucosamine through a fermentation process. This makes it suitable for both vegetarians and vegans, and for those people with an allergy to shellfish. Please note that some glucosamine hydrochloride products are in fact made from shellfish, with the hydrochloride salt simply being chosen instead of the sulphate. However, Lamberts product is guaranteed to be from a vegetable source and is often used in conjuction with Vegan DHA.
